Young Writers' Workshop

Thursday 11th of April

A free event for young creative writers nominated by 15 primary schools across CHB. This annual event nurtures the love of the written word in our future authors. Our 2024 workshop is being led by the current Te Awhi Rito NZ Reading Ambassador Alan Dingley.

Born in Christchurch, and raised in Hawke's Bay, Alan Dingley is also the Community Librarian at Te Patikitiki Highbury Library in Palmerston North.

Alan has over 25 years of experience working with children and young people, almost 20 of those in libraries. Alan was part of the judging panel for the Children's and Young People's Book Awards in 2020, then Convenor of Judges in 2021.

He teaches drama and performs with SpontaneoUS Improv group in Palmerston North, and is into his 44th year of playing football.  He is a lucky Dad to two gorgeous children, Sam and George, a dog called Chaos, 2 budgies, 1 axolotl, a bunny and 2 rats.

This free event is sponsored by a grant from the Creative Communities Scheme.

Please note that this event is by invitation only.
