Saffron Swirls and Cardamom Dust

Saturday 10th September 3pm
Ongaonga Community Hall

Join us for high tea with Ashia Ismail-Singer, author of Saffron Swirls and Cardamom Dust – after all, we could all do with a bit of sugar and spice in our lives!

Ashia’s new collection of spice infused deserts and baking delights are made for all to share and we will be serving some of her dishes at the event. With her characteristic creative flair, drawing inspiration form culinary traditions across the world, Ashia’s recipes are impossible to resist and guaranteed to impress!

Tickets include ADMISSION TO THE ONGAONGA MUSEUM so allow time to wander through the 13 historical buildings that house a variety of historical artefacts. The Ongaonga Museum is a great place to learn about early Central Hawke's Bay.

Ashia is of Memon heritage, from the Gujarat region of India. She was raised in Malawi and the UK and now lives in New Zealand. Ashia is passionate about Indian cuisine and sharing it with Kiwis. She published her first cookbook, My Indian Kitchen, in October 2018 to great acclaim from seasoned food writers. Ashia has been published in New Zealand House & Garden magazine over the last six years and has also featured in the TV1 show “Neighbourhood”, Breakfast on One, National Radio and Radio Live.

Ongaonga Hall will be transformed for the event by the fantastically flamboyant Miss Frou Frou and treats from Ashia’s book will be part of the high tea prepared in the expert kitchens of the Ongaonga Historical Society.

Our thanks to Suzanne Beaumont of Miss Frou Frou for generously supporting this event!
